Uplifting & Renewing Colors Trending for 2017

A new year is upon us and we are ready to be renewed! So what are the 2017 color trends that will refresh your spaces?

Pantone’s® “Top 10 Colors for Spring 2017” are a “mixture of vitality, relaxation and the great outdoors” including both bright and neutral shades.

Pantone’s® “Top 10 Colors for Spring 2017” are a “mixture of vitality, relaxation and the great outdoors” including both bright and neutral shades.

“Color of the Year” predictions were once a monopoly of Pantone®, but now paint companies are picking them too. Sherwin Williams® has selected “Poised Taupe” which is a very safe but not as safe as 2016’s Alabaster White. “Poised Taupe” is neutral color with a combination of grey and brown that reminds me of a chocolate milkshake. It pairs well with white trim and looks very sophisticated with black and white accent pieces.

Benjamin Moore® has declared “Shadow” as the color of the year but they also mention 23 additional trending colors. I really like “Shadow”, a very rich, deep purple with grey undertones. The thought of a purple space can be scary to some, so if that is you, try working with some of the other trending Benjamin Moore colors. The deep, rich, warm, royal, muted palette may be a little easier to work with you if you are DIY.

Contrast the above colors with Pantone’s® 2017 color of the year, “Greenery” which as you can imagine is a pretty intense green. I like green and can see this color being beautiful on walls, furniture or just as an accent. Pantone’s® “Top 10 Colors for Spring 2017” are described as a “mixture of vitality, relaxation and the great outdoors”, with half being bright shades such as Flame, Primrose Yellow, Pink Yarrow and Lapis Blue, and the other half muted, natural tones. One thing I know is that Pantone’s® color choices show up everywhere: in products used in interior design, homewares and fashion. If this holds true this year, prepare to wake up to a brighter 2017. If paint companies have more clout this year then we are in for a subtle, sophisticated and elegant year.

Next issue we will delve into other trending items like the hexagon shape which I have been predicting for many years. I see it trending in a big way everywhere, on floors, walls, and fabrics.
